Phil Jackson, coach of the L.A. Lakers probably asked himself and others, "How can I start a coaching basketball career?" at some time in his life. He played basketball, baseball and football in high school at Williston, North Dakota. His playing ability was spotted by a couple of scouts, who gave the info to future NBA coach Bill Fitch, who helped give Phil his start with the NBA. He played basketball in North Dakota for the Sigma Alpha Epsilon as well as moving on to play for the Knicks and then the Nets before he retired in 1980. "How can I start a coaching basketball career" had to have crossed his mind at this point in his life because shortly afterwards he became assistant coach and then head coach for the Chicago Bulls basketball team.
After stressful times with the Bulls, he left the team, took a year off, and became coach of the L.A. Lakers and helped make them the great team they are today. He now gives help and advice to young men that have the same question of "how can I start a coaching basketball career"?
